Champions!

Tuesday night was the championship of the city softball tournament. Mike's team has been great this year! Tuesday was storms all over and Deadwood actually got inches of hail and flooding. We figured all day that softball was going to be cancelled - which would be bad for the team because 2 of the players were leaving for vacation on Wednesday! Well late afternoon, the sun came out and softball was on!

The first game they played, they beat the team no problem. The tournament was double elimination so they had to lose twice. They ended up playing Countryside team. If they won the first game, it was over and they won. If they lost, they had to play countryside again for the championship.

The first game against Countryside - they ended up losing. They struggled and Countryside is a good solid hitting team! The second game they were behind most of the game. One of the later innings, they tied it. Then in the bottom of the 6th, they pulled ahead 10-9. They were 3 outs away from being the champions! In the top of the 7th the 2 outs came - then the tying run for Countryside was on 3rd base. They ended up getting an out that time - so Applebees won 10-9!
The team really is a great group of guys who have a lot of fun together! We all went out to the Stadium to celebrate!
Now co-ed softball in Belle is going to be starting August 16th. It's a fun group of people too! I have no athletic ability - so I watch instead of play :) They have a good time! Their team name is Franks and Beans and they wear Hawaiian shirts for their uniforms if that tells you anything!
